Graham Parry says, “My rendition tries to reproduce to "Old Newspaper found under the lino" look and has the following process steps:Straighten image to level the eyes; crop; copy reflection of subjects RH eye onto the subjects LH eye (to remove bright reflection); clone out button on shirt (to remove distraction); spot heal (remove distractions); remove colour 50% and boost magenta 25%; "Antique" filter; clone parts of background (remove distractions); enhance contrast; very mild sharpen. It won't be many peoples taste but I like it. Based on an idea that came to me when I had to empty out my father-in-laws loft of a load of "Old Newspapers".
David Hall says about his version, “It has had a patchwork filter, crosshatch filter, and one or two others in whole or part, also a selective colour change and darkening and added edge colour.”
Terry Smallbone says about his original version, “I took the picture of my Dad sitting by the dining room window whilst my Dad, my Mum and I were playing cards before one Sunday lunch. He’s quite relaxed about me pointing my camera at him by now and doesn’t run and hide like my Mum does! Catching him quite expressionless doesn’t really represent his character but I thought it an interesting picture. I converted it to black and white; added gaussian blur filter around his head to add a bit of differential focusing; adjusted levels and contrast; added a bit of grain and then applied the unsharp mask filter slightly. Does my Dad like it? Not much! I think it’s more of a ‘photographers’ picture though as most subjects prefer a smiley portrait of themselves.
